        The Hudson, Corinth, 9/2/2024

I have never seen something as angelic as eelgrass during reproduction.

In mid to late summer a stalk up to 3 meters long uncoils to reach the waters' surface.

The female flowers bloom atop their pedestal.

The male flowers are released from below and float to the surface.

Many are eaten in the process but those that survive float along the surface until they come in contact with the female flowers.

Once pollinated, the stalk recoils, pulling the fruit down to develop.
