My practice follows remnants of human activity we can find on Rhode Islands’ shore lines, from plastic bits to bait fish. I am struck by the resourcefulness of creatures that manipulate plastic as if it were a naturally occurring material. From plastic bags woven through bird nests to tree roots wrapping around a dunkin’ cup, our ecosystem does not reject materials because they are manmade. Scanning the beach for trash, I observe the resilience and strength of nature, and cultivate an awareness of how its complex systems are tied to human intervention.
